Biocontrol receives Grant for Research and Development Award from Lord Winston

Dr. David Harper, Founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Biocontrol, today received a Grant for Research and Development award from Lord Robert Winston at the Globe Theatre, London. 
The awards ceremony was held to recognise the achievements of the London award winners for 2007. The £200,000 award was given to Biocontrol by the London Development Agency (LDA) to fund the company's development of novel bacteriophage-based biological antibiotics.

The LDA is the Mayor's agency responsible for driving London's sustainable economic growth, working with partners from industry, and the public and voluntary sectors. 
The Grant for Research and Development scheme provides funding to help small and medium sized enterprises carry out research and development work that will lead to technologically innovative products or processes. This grant is a DTI scheme and is delivered through the LDA. 

Biocontrol Limited is a UK-based company that holds a leading position in the development of biological antibiotics based on bacteriophages, naturally occurring viruses that target and destroy bacteria. The company's lead product is currently in clinical trials against ear infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
