Biocontrol closes funding round for phase 1/2 clinical trial.

Biocontrol today announced the closing of its investment round which is to provide funding for its first clinical trial.

This is planned to be a double-blind, placebo controlled phase 1/2 clinical trial evaluating the safety and efficacy of a mixture of six bacteriophages against ear infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The trial has appropriate permissions from the MHRA and has also obtained approval through the COREC ethics process.

The trial is planned to enroll 40 patients, and is the first trial of the effectiveness of a bacteriophage-based therapeutic to be conducted to modern regulatory standards.
